A must visit destination when in Lourdes is the Pic du Jer, offering one of the best views of the Pyrenees from Lourdes. Visitors can reach it by taking the 100 year old funicular, and reach the top in a few minutes. Traveling at an altitude of 1000 meters, the journey to the top is quite a scenic one. Once at the top, a walking trail will take visitors to the observatory where they will be able to enjoy panoramic views of Lourdes and its beautiful surrounding peaks and valleys. While here, visitors can also take a guided tour of the grottos, a cave that has been excavated up to a depth of 40 metres. Those at the top of the summit may even have the opportunity to spot some amazing wild life, as the surrounding countryside tends to attract animals such as roe deer, Egyptian vulture and more.  Visitors can also enjoy a meal or snack at the restaurant located next to the upper station.

Prayer Facilities

Muslim tourists visiting the Pic du Jer while in Lourdes will not find a prayer room or mosque in the area nearby. They will however find a mosque in the city of Lourdes. Muslims could plan their day around prayer times, so that they are able to get back in time to offer their prayer in the mosque or their hotel room.

Finding Halal food in the city of Lourdes is not easy. Muslim visitors will therefore have to dine at vegetarian or seafood restaurants. While at the summit of Pic du Jer, visitors can dine at the restaurant situated next to the upper station and choose a vegetarian or seafood dish; after making sure the chosen dish does not contain any non-Halal items.
