Description

A trip to the city of Casablanca is truly incomplete without visiting Hassan II Mosque. Known to be the second largest mosque in the world, Hassan II Mosque can accommodate 2,500 worshippers inside and another 80,000 in its courtyard. The 210 metre minaret found here is the tallest in the world and is topped by a laser, the light from which is directed towards Mecca. The mosque and the accompanying minaret were designed by Michel Pinseau, a French architect. This monumental complex sits right next to the sea and covers an area of 9 hectares, offering much to see. Some of the highlights of the mosque apart from its grandeur and beauty are the glass floor which allows worshippers to kneel and pray over the sea, and a sliding roof that allows worshippers to pray under the stars. Visitors looking to learn more about the mosque and its stunning architecture can take guided tours which are offered several times a day.
