Description

The riverside city of Samarinda! Located right by the Mahakam river, this town offers its own charm to its visitors. From culinary tours to nature adventures, Samarinda has everything tourists can ever look for in a vacation!

The Mahakam River itself exhibits plenty of attractions! The nightlights, boat rides, or walks along the riverside are perfect to catch a glimpse of the local livelihoods in town. To get in touch with Samarinda’s cultural sites, visit the Pampang Cultural Village where they portray Dayak Kenyah’s culture and performances! Don’t miss out on Samarinda’s Tenun or Weaving Village as well! This is where traditional handwoven Samarinda clothes are made.

Samarinda’s natural attractions are glorious sights worth visiting in town. The Tanah Merah Waterfall, Pinang Seribu Waterfall, and the Berambai Waterfall are great tranquil escapes, especially among the locals! Aside from Samarinda’s waterfalls, there are also Kumala Island and Lembah Hijau Recreation Park where visitors can enjoy the tranquility or participate in the thrills of the facility!

This city has plenty of stores where visitors can bring home a piece of Dayak souvenirs! One of the most iconic centers is the Citra Niaga Market. This complex sells everything from batik sarongs to handcrafted carvings!

Nearby Airports

Samarinda is served by the Aji Pangeran Tumenggung Pranoto International Airport. As the airport itself is new, public transport is quite rare around the airport vicinities. The easier yet more pricey transportation option is by taxi which would cost around Rp 150,000.

Halal Restaurants

Finding halal cuisine in town shouldn’t be a problem! The best recommended restaurants in Samarinda are Pondok Borneo Samarinda, Depot Anggrek Samarinda, Soto Banjar Amado, and Kampung Nasi Kuning Ijay.

Mosques

The primary mosque of Samarinda is the Masjid Islamic Center Samarinda. Other mosques are available as well all around the city. The other most visited mosques in the city are Darussalam Great Mosque and the Masjid Shiratal Mustaqiem.
