Urban Exploration: A Halal-Friendly Walking Trail Through Singapore

Singapore is a city designed to be discovered on foot. The city’s commitment to being a "City in Nature" has resulted in canopy-covered walkways and cooling green corridors that make a morning stroll both scenic and comfortable.

For Muslim travelers, this specific trail offers the perfect blend of historical heritage, modern architecture, and easy access to Halal food and prayer spaces. Infused into this walking trail, you will also see our winning list of restaurants from the HalalTrip Gastronomy Awards 2026, making your walk complete with delicious Halal cuisines.

Tie your laces! We will be starting in the vibrant streets of Kampong Glam and ending at the shimmering Marina Bay waterfront.

The Heritage Start: Kampong Glam

Begin your journey at the iconic Masjid Sultan. Its golden domes are a beacon for the district and a perfect place to offer your morning prayers before setting off. Spend thirty minutes wandering through Haji Lane and Bussorah Street to admire the vibrant murals and boutique shops.

  • Refuel Station: Grab a Teh Tarik and a slice of traditional Kueh at the vibrant stalls in Kampong Glam. For a more filling meal, head to Rumah Makan Minang for classic Minang delicacies or Hai Ge Ji Hainanese Chicken Rice for a comforting plate of Singapore’s beloved dish.

The Architectural Stretch: Beach Road to The Esplanade

Head south toward Beach Road. You will pass the historic Raffles Hotel before reaching the War Memorial Park, a quiet green space perfect for a quick rest. From here, follow the underground links or the scenic overpasses toward the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay. The "Durian-shaped" architecture is a marvel of modern design.

  • Food and Prayer Tip: While Masjid Burhani on Hill Street is a short detour away, the Esplanade itself offers a small prayer room located at Level 2 inside The Malayan Council (Esplanade branch). While you’re here, you can also try their delicious smoked duck chili padi or other fusion Malay dishes.

The Iconic Finish: The Helix Bridge and Marina Bay

Walk across the Helix Bridge, a stainless-steel marvel that offers one of the best views of the Singapore skyline. This leads you directly to the ArtScience Museum and Marina Bay Sands. The trail concludes at Gardens by the Bay, where you can walk among the giant superficial trees.

  • Prayer Rooms: For a proper, dedicated prayer space, take a 10-minute walk (or a quick one-stop MRT ride to Downtown Station) to Marina One East Tower. Located at Basement 2, there is a clean, quiet musolla with separate areas for men and women and proper Wudu facilities. You can also head to the musolla at Marina Square if you are closer to the Esplanade side of the bay.
  • Dining Finale: For a celebratory meal, head to The Seafood Market (Halal) @Riverwalk. With fresh Singaporean seafood like chili crab, this spot is perfect to end the trail by eating by the water.

A Walkable City for the Soul

This walking trail is a nice way to see how Singapore seamlessly weaves its Islamic heritage into a futuristic landscape. As the sun sets over the Marina Bay, you will realize that in this city, the journey is just as beautiful as the destination.
