Top 10 Halal Restaurants in Kandy
Kandy is the second-largest city in Sri Lanka and a centre of culture and religion. It is one of the must-visit places when traveling to Sri Lanka with an ideal weather of always chill (not sweltering like the south, or freezing cold like further up the hill station).

The city's food scene is also pretty happening, and you won't have any trouble finding Halal food in Kandy. Be it the local street shop or a trendy cafe, you will be spoilt for choice with all the Muslim-friendly and Halal-certified food spots in Kandy.

Here are 10 of the best Halal restaurants in Kandy:

1. Kandy Muslim Hotel

Kandy Muslim Hotel

Address: Sri Dalada Veediya, Kandy 20000, Sri Lanka.
Phone: +94 81 2 229129

Kandy Muslim Hotel isn't a hotel you can stay at, but a lively local eatery. Don't get confused; in Sri Lanka, a restaurant will often be called a 'hotel'. But semantics aside, the food served here is delicious! Their menu includes typical hearty Sri Lankan fare of spicy, tangy curries, hoppers, crispy samosas, and of course, the crowning king of Sri Lankan cuisine: kottu rotti!

Note: Kottu rotti is a traditional Sri Lankan dish made from chopped Sri Lankan rotti (paratha), mixed with vegetables and egg. It also often comes with some type of meat, but is always utterly delicious!

2. Licensed To Grill

Licensed To Grill

Address: George E de Silva Park, Dalada Veediya, Kandy 20000, Sri Lanka.
Phone: +94 77 855 0639

Calling this outdoor eatery a restaurant is a bit of a stretch, but given that they've been ranked the Number 1 restaurant in Kandy by TripAdvisor for the second year in a row means we absolutely cannot leave it off the list. If you're hungry for some delicious grilled meats, sandwiches and wraps this is where you need to go. And don't miss out on their range of mouthwatering, juicy burgers! This tent set up with a couple tables and a couple guys manning it might not seem like much, but it's definitely far better than it looks. They are not Halal certified (given their size, it's understandable), but they assure us that their food is Muslim-friendly (no alcohol/no pork).

Dinemore is one of the most famous family food chains all across Sri Lanka, and a popular family restaurant in Kandy. They serve a variety of delicious Asian, Sri Lankan, and Western dishes. Dinemore is owned by Muslims, and have been around for more than 20 years now! Although their menu consists of so many delicious items like dum biryani, nasi goreng, shawarmas, club sandwiches, pizzas, and more, their submarines are what they are known for and what everyone raves about!

4. Mlesna Tea Centre

Mlesna Tea Centre

Address: Sri Dalada Veediya, Kandy, Sri Lanka.

You haven't experienced Sri Lanka if you haven't had a chance to taste pure Sri Lankan Tea. With more westernized coffee shops and whatnot popping up, it's becoming harder to find a decent tea house serving authentic Sri Lankan tea. Luckily, Mlesna Tea Centre still does! Decorated in dark wood and leather, the tea room gives off a cosy and inviting feeling – making it the perfect family friendly tea spot to stop by for a cup of tea (and snacks) in the morning or evening. You can also pick up some packaged tea leaves they have available to bring home with you!

5. Soya Centre

Soya Centre

Phone: +94 75 636 3219

Ever had soy ice cream? Or soy sausages? If you answered no - or even if you answered yes - you need to head to Soya Centre immediately! As you might have guessed, Soya Centre specializes on dishes made entirely from soy! We're talking rotis, sandwiches, sweets, drinks, and of course sausages and even ice cream! And since everything here is vegetarian, this is one of the places you can go to for Muslim-friendly food dishes in Kandy. You can also enjoy a nice view from your table at the overhanging porch looking out onto the busy streets of Kandy.

6. Pizza Hut

Pizza Hut Fast Food Joint

Of course, Pizza Hut needs no introduction because of its fame worldwide! Pizza Hut is one of the most famous Halal certified food spots in Sri Lanka; and they have branches in cities all across the island, including Kandy. If you're craving for some delectable pizzas, Pizza Hut is your most reliable option in terms of accessibility, Halal-assurance, and deliciousness. Try the classic Sri Lankan flavours such as devil chicken and chilli chicken, or any of the exciting new pizzas they are always introducing (the most recent range includes flavours like fiery wasabi prawn, teriyaki chicken fiesta, lemongrass prawn zing, and more).

7. KK King Kebab

KK King Kebab

Address: 400/A Peradeniya road (next to KFC), Kandy 20000, Sri Lanka.
Phone: +94 81 2 222699

King Kebab is one of the best Halal food restaurants in Kandy, especially if you're looking to find delicious kebabs! Run by a Muslim, it is situated close to the city centre so it's pretty easily accessible. King Kebab serves up a mouthwatering menu of grills, burgers, sauces, shakes, and more, but the absolute highlight is the kebab. They even have a vegetarian falafel kebab that even meat lovers can't stop raving about! With food that is made from fresh ingredients and spiced beautifully, this is one place you cannot miss when trying to locate Halal restaurants in Kandy.

8. KFC

KFC Fast food joint

Address: Dalda Veediya Kandy, Kandy 20000, Sri Lanka.
Phone: +94 81 2 202251

KFC, like Pizza Hut, is another international mammoth. Arguably, no one does crispy, crunchy fried chicken like they do. Lucky for us, KFC is also a Halal-certified food spot in Sri Lanka with branches all around the country. KFC might seem pretty ordinary, but when all else fails, you can trust the colonel to have your back! And they do serve quite a few “Lankan-ized” variations, and they're pretty tasty, so head on over to give it a try.

9. Citrus Cafe

Citrus Cafe

Address: 34 B samgaraja Maratha, Kandy 20000, Sri Lanka.
Phone: +94 77 700 2935

If you're looking to locate Halal restaurants in Kandy for a quick and delicious meal, then Citrus Cafe is a great choice for you. They serve up delightfully fresh food made from quality ingredients in a clean restaurant, and the staff are extremely polite and friendly. The restaurant features an open kitchen, and their menu contains a range of dishes from various Asian cuisines, and of course Sri Lankan too! This is another place where you can try the famed Sri Lankan kottu. They also have quite a few vegetarian options that are just as good as the meat ones!

10. Cool Corner

Cool Corner

Address: 114 Peradeniya Road, Kandy 20000, Sri Lanka.
Phone: +94 81 2 205218

Cool Corner is a great dessert spot in Kandy where you can pop by to satisfy that sweet craving after a meal. Everyone who goes here raves about their ice cream, and with so many different flavours and varieties to choose from, you'll find yourself coming back to try more in no time. They make their ice creams from scratch using fresh and organic ingredients and freeze them using liquid nitrogen (you can witness this process too). A couple favourites include the Nutella with almonds and plum pudding flavours (they have vegan flavours too). Also, make sure to check out their rolled ice creams as well! The owner and staff are extremely friendly too, so chat with them while you're there.
