All You Need To Know About Zakat Fitrah and Zakat on Savings In SG (How & Where)

Zakat Fitrah is the act of paying a sum of money to cleanse ourselves from our wrongdoings while we are fasting during the month of Ramadan. While dismissing our wrong deeds through monetary means does not necessarily mean that we are forgiven, we can only hope that Zakat Fitrah is a way for us to redeem ourselves as it is also a form of charity to the needy. Zakat Fitrah can be given from the start of Ramadan until Eid prayers on the first day of Syawal.

As of 2018, Zakat Fitrah in Singapore is at $5 per person for the Normal Rate and $7 per person for the higher rate. This determines the grade of rice. The price above translates to 2.3kg of the region's staple food (rice).

Zakat on Savings is compulsory when the individual's bank account balance has never gone below the Nisab value given by the region in the past 1 Haul or also known as 1 Islamic year (about 355 days). The individual will then pay 2.5% of the lowest balance in the year. The Nisab value can be found in the local Muslim association website. In Singapore, Muslims can find the Nisab value for the year by visiting www.zakat.sg. Zakat on Savings can also be given at any time of the year.

As of 2018, the Nisab value set by MUIS is $4,966. Below we compile a list of places where you can give Zakat and how:
