Ninety Days to Ramadan: A Du’a for the Journey to our Most Precious Month

With the arrival of Jumada al-Thani, the Islamic calendar moves closer to one of its most anticipated months. Although Ramadan is still some weeks away, Muslims around the world begin to prepare inwardly for its coming. A familiar supplication often returns at this time:

اللَّهُمَّ بَلِّغْنَا رَمَضَانَ
“O Allah, allow us to reach Ramadan.”

This brief du’a holds profound significance. It acknowledges that reaching Ramadan is not guaranteed and that every opportunity to experience it is an act of divine mercy. The prayer is both a request for life and for spiritual readiness. It reminds us that the journey to Ramadan begins long before the first sighting of the crescent moon.

The Meaning of “Reaching”

To say Allahumma ballighna Ramadan is to ask Allah not only for the extension of time but also for preservation in faith and sincerity. The Arabic term “ballighna” (to let us reach) suggests more than physical arrival. It conveys the idea of being carried through a journey, protected, guided, and prepared along the way.

In these months leading to Ramadan, many experience the fatigue of daily life. Work demands increase, and time feels scarce. Jumada al-Thani offers a pause before the new cycle of devotion begins. It is an opportunity to restore intention and to realign one’s priorities with the awareness of Allah.

Preparing in Small Steps

Spiritual preparation for Ramadan need not be overwhelming. Islam emphasizes consistency and sincerity over quantity. The Prophet ﷺ said, “The most beloved deeds to Allah are those done consistently, even if they are few.” (Bukhari and Muslim)

Practical preparation can begin with small, intentional acts:

  1. Consistency in one act of worship.
Choose a daily practice such as a verse of Qur’an, a short remembrance, or a moment of quiet reflection, and sustain it with sincerity.
  2. Releasing one unhelpful habit.
Identify something that weakens focus or drains energy, and take gentle steps to let it go.
  3. Reconnecting with one person.
Repairing a strained relationship or offering forgiveness clears the heart and nurtures barakah in our days.

The Du’a of Preservation

When reciting Allahumma ballighna Ramadan, we are seeking not only to live until that month but to arrive with sound hearts and steadfast faith. The du’a becomes a form of protection. It is a prayer that Allah preserves our health, strengthens our belief, and grants us meaningful days leading to Ramadan.

O Allah, let us reach Ramadan with health, peace, and faith that endures.

This mindset shifts the focus from counting days to cultivating readiness. The journey to Ramadan is not a countdown but a process of quiet renewal.

Concluding Reflection

Every act of preparation, however small, is seen by Allah. Even the longing to reach Ramadan is a form of worship.

The coming ninety days are a bridge between intention and arrival. They are a time to build steadiness, to simplify, and to seek closeness to Allah in ordinary moments.

May He preserve us and allow us to reach Ramadan with hearts that recognize His mercy.

اللَّهُمَّ بَلِّغْنَا رَمَضَانَ، وَأَعِنَّا عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ وَشُكْرِكَ وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَ
O Allah, let us reach Ramadan, and help us to remember You, thank You, and worship You in the best way.
