For the past few weeks, we have lived through the steady rhythm of Dhu al-Qa’dah, a month historically recognized as a time for "sitting" or rest. It has been a season of deep stillness, a period to gather our thoughts and steady our hearts.
However, as the final Friday of this month arrives, that energy is beginning to shift. We are standing at the very edge of the most significant ten days of the year.
Dhu al-Hijjah is expected to begin this coming Monday, May 18, 2026. This means we are currently in the final seventy-two hours of preparation. The virtues of these upcoming ten days are unparalleled, with every good deed carrying a weight and a love that is distinct to this window of time. According to Hadith Sunan Ibn Majah, the Prophet (PBUH) said:
“There are no days during which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these days,”
If Dhu al-Qa’dah was our time to reflect on our capacity for peace, Dhu al-Hijjah is our opportunity to transform that peace into purposeful action, where we could deepen our connection with Allah.
Spiritual preparation is most effective when the logistics are settled. Today is the day to finalize your Qurbani or Udhiyah intentions. Whether you are booking through a local service or an international platform, ensuring your sacrifice is accounted for allows you to enter the first of Dhu al-Hijjah with a clear mind. Do not leave these logistical steps until the month has already begun; handle them now so your heart can remain entirely focused on worship when the sun rises on Monday morning.
The pinnacle of these ten days is the Day of Arafah, a day of immense forgiveness and answered supplications. Even though it is still over a week away, the mental preparation begins now.
Mark your calendar, plan your fast, and start drafting your personal supplication list. Think about the specific needs of your family, your community, and your own soul. When you have a plan in place, you are far less likely to let those precious, fleeting hours slip away.
As we say goodbye to the past month, our tongues should begin to prepare for a different rhythm. The tradition of these ten days is to increase in Takbir, Tahmid, and Tahlil. Start incorporating these phrases into your day today. Let the transition from the month of sitting to the month of Hajj be marked by a shift in your environment, your energy, and your intentions.
Let us bid our farewell to the stillness of Dhu al-Qa’dah. We have rested, we have reflected, and we have found our peace. Now, it is time to use that fuel to propel ourselves into the best ten days of the year.
This transition is a gift, a chance to prove that we can be just as disciplined in our actions as we were in our rest. Standing at this threshold, let us commit to making every moment of the upcoming week count. The gateway is open, and it is time for us to step through.
