SMFW 2017 - Bringing Modest Fashion to Singapore

Singapore’s first Modest Fashion Weekend took place last weekend and we give you the lowdown on what happened at the event. The Singapore Modest Fashion Week (SMFW) was held from 14-16 April at Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands. Organized by RoseValley – the team behind the success of CelebFest – and Mediacorp, the star studded three-day event is predicted to be the largest fashion gathering for designers from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

With the theme “Inspire and be Inspired”, the inaugural event aims to empower Modest fashion designers to showcase their collections on a larger scale with Singapore as the choice destination for the region’s best Modest Fashion brands. The perception of modest fashion is changing with brands creating increasingly contemporary designs of modestwear. Not only are they making waves in the local scene, events like SMFW 2017 provide emerging designers and creators with a platform to showcase their collection on a regional and even global scale.

The shopping piazza filled with over 50 pop-up booths by brands like Owl by Nora Danish, Ziana Zain, Naelofar Hijab and Scha Alyahya and Awal Ashaari, was open to members of the public. Local Singaporean brands such as MaySixteen, Halyaa and Adrianna Yariqa also graced the event with their latest hijab and modern kurung collections.

The highlight of the event was the fashion runway shows packed with exclusive styling and make up workshops followed by exclusive collections by designers such as Sazzy Falak, Ria Miranda and Fizi Woo. Interspersed between the runway shows are performances by Aisyah Aziz, Awi Rafael, Sufi Rashid and more. At $6 per person, members of the general public could get front row seats to see their favorite designers and celebrities up close and personal.

Modest fashion in Singapore is rapidly scaling and events such as SMFW 2017 prove that the possibilities are endless!
