Frankfurt Airport is the busiest airport not just in Germany, but also in the entire European continent. The airport is located 12 kilometers south west of the city center. It has two passenger terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

Prayer Facilities

There are multi-faith prayer rooms in both the terminals, with toilets and ablution facilities on hand. They are available at the following locations: Terminal 1, B Concourse, Level 2 (Departures, Gallery) Terminal 2, D Concourse, Level 3 (Departures, after the security checkpoint)

The prayer rooms are open 24 hours a day and cater to the needs of both male and female worshippers. The signs to the prayer rooms are easy to find. Those unable to find them can request the airport staff for guidance. It is advisable for travelers to perform their prayers before leaving the airport, as there are no mosques in close proximity to the airport.

Halal Food

Halal dining at the airport Surprisingly, for a city with a significant Muslim population, there are very few halal options available at the Frankfurt Airport. There are a few Turkish outlets, however there Halal status is not certified. It is better to check with restaurant and food outlet owners to confirm the halal status of their food.

Transport

There are many options to get to Frankfurt from the airport and back. Train and bus services offered at the airport are convenient and inexpensive.

The airport has two rail stations and one bus terminal, which are located next to Terminal 1. There is a local rail plus one for further destinations. In order to use the RMV transport, one need to purchase tickets from their ticket machines or from the RMV Mobility Center. The rail stations offer direct services to Frankfurt after every 15 minutes. It takes about 11 minutes to reach the Frankfurt Central Station and around 15 minutes to reach the Frankfurt city center.

Bus stations are located outside all of the terminals. The buses depart after every 20 minutes and take around 20 minutes to arrive in the city. Another option for getting to Frankfurt is via taxi, which costs around EUR 20.00. The journey takes about 20 minutes and is available 24-hours a day.

As the airport is very close to the Autobahn, car travel is handy and a rental car may be a good choice for groups. Car rental companies' offices are located at the airport. Reservations can also be made online.

Shopping

There are more than 130 retail outlets at the airport, offering a large variety of products ranging from gift items, fragrances and souvenirs to newspapers, magazines, watches and much more. There is also a new shopping mall called Marktplatz opened on level 2 of Terminal 2 in 2009. For people traveling with children, there are playgrounds in both the terminals to help occupy them during long waits.

Amenities

There are numerous banks, currency exchange counters and ATMs available in Terminals 1 and 2. A number of major German banks offer a complete range of domestic and international banking services and facilities at their branches located in the Frankfurt Airport Center (FAC) opposite Terminal 1.

For the convenience of business travelers, Frankfurt Airport offers a complete range of business facilities at the airport conference center including meeting rooms with audiovisual and telecommunications equipment, plus secretarial services and interpreters. Rooms are also available for hire at Terminal 2.

Executive lounges are provided by many of the major airlines. Postal services are available throughout the airport. 3C Communications offer round the clock credit card phones and faxes, as well as Internet access. Deutsche Telekom also offers Internet ports at some gates.

Both terminals have elevator and ramp access, automatic doors, modified telephones and bathrooms, electric buggies and special parking areas for travelers with special needs. The Sky Line shuttle is accessible for travelers using wheelchair. 

Other amenities at the airport include information and help desks, baby changing rooms, pharmacies, a 24-hour medical clinic in Terminal 1, a hair salon, lost property and left-luggage offices in both the terminals.
