Description

The Waibaidu Bridge - known as the Garden Bridge in English - is one of the most prominent landmarks in Shanghai. Located in the Suzhou Creek, the Waibaidu Bridge was constructed in 1908 but its origins can be traced as far back as 1850. The bridge is the first all-steel bridge in the world and stretches across a length of over 100 metres and is noted for its unique architectural elements. Due to its rich history and significance in the past, the bridge has been declared a fine example of Heritage Architecture by the Shanghai Municipal Government and presently it is a popular tourist attraction in Shanghai. The bridge area is particularly scenic at night when it lights up against the beautiful city backdrop, providing truly breathtaking views.
