San José del Cabo is a Mexican city, with a population of just under 70,000. It is a popular tourist destination with almost a million tourists having visited the city in 2011 alone. Considered the quieter counterpart of the entertainment city of Cabo San Lucas, San José del Cabo is a docile city with simple, but plentiful, shopping and dining opportunities.
San José del Cabo is the perfect destination for low-key and relaxed vacations, with beautiful beaches, estuaries as well as art galleries and some of the best Mexican restaurants serving seafood dishes. There will be no shortage of things to do in San José del Cabo which has plenty to offer sight-seers: from natural parks and waterfalls to plazas and ancient missions. Tourists can also indulge in shopping, with an array of spoils available – everything from antique silver to Mexican blankets.
Taxis and buses are the preferred mode of transport within San José del Cabo. The taxi drivers are required by law to display the government-sanctioned rates thereby effectively minimizing the risk of being over-charged the fares. San José del Cabo is mostly sunny. However, rainfall is unpredictable with the occasional cyclone being known to hit San José del Cabo.
The main airport serving San José del Cabo is the regional airport Los Cabos International Airport which is located about a 40-minute drive away from the city centre. Flying in to San José del Cabo is the best mode of transport and the Los Cabos International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the country, serving numerous airlines and millions of passengers every year.
There are no known Halal restaurants in San José del Cabo and therefore access to Halal food in San José del Cabo will be quite limited. Muslim travellers should take note that though there are many restaurants that offer seafood and vegetarian cuisine, most Mexican dishes require the use of animal fat during preparation and it is recommended that you enquire with restaurant owners about how food is made, prior to dining.
Finding mosques in San José del Cabo will not be easy, with prayer facilities in San José del Cabo being limited. During prayer times, Muslim travellers could use the privacy of their hotel room or accommodation option or simply ask around for a private area that can be used when travelling outdoors.
