Lombok is an island that belongs to a group of islands in Southern Indonesia known as the Nusa Tenggara Barat. The island is located in the southern maritime region of Southeast Asia, just above Australia. A number of several other tiny islands surround Lombok—referred to as the Gili Islands by locals—which are also popular attractions amongst tourists. The island of Lombok takes on a roughly circular shape and spans across an area of nearly 5,000 square kilometers. It is home to over three million Indonesian residents, with the majority being Muslim.
