The Croatian town of Poreč is located on in the county of Istria, on the Istrian Peninsula's west coast. The area is a popular tourist destination for its historical and cultural appeal. Poreč, which spans across an area of over 130 square kilometres, is home to a population of over 16,000 residents comprising mostly Croats, Italians, Serbs and Albanians. Italian is spoken by a large percentage of the population.

Poreč is a historic city and its origins date back to prehistoric times when it was first inhabited. It served as an important city during the Roman Era and was later a part of the Byzantine Empire. Poreč was also ruled by the Ostrogoths and the Franks. At present, it is a vibrant town and is extremely popular for its summer tourism.

Numerous historical attractions and places-of-interest can be found at Poreč, including the 6th century Euphrasian Basilica which is perhaps its most prominent landmark as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other attractions in Poreč include the Marafor Roman Square and houses from the Romanesque period.

Nearby Airports

The nearest airport to Poreč is the Pula Airport in the city of Pula, and is located about 60 kilometres away from the city centre. It is a fairly busy airport in Croatia, serving numerous airlines and passengers throughout the year. It also serves some of the smaller cities around Eastern Italy and Slovenia. Travelling within the city is best done via bus or by the numerous taxi services available in the small town.
