Located halfway between Budapest and Vienna, is the capital of the Győr-Moson-Sopron County and Western Transdanubia region; Győr. This is the most important city of northwest Hungary, and is an important cultural center; home to numerous popular attractions. This popular tourist destination is also home to an Audi factory, where the Audi TT sports cars, the A3 cabriolet and many engines are manufactured. Győr is an excellent base for excursions and it is definitely worth visiting this historic and colorful town. Győr is located just a few kilometers from the banks of the Danube and is therefore also known as the town of rivers. Situated in delicate surroundings, Győr is also home to one of the oldest historical monuments in Hungary; the Pannonhalma Monastery. There is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site located nearby. Muslim visitors will not find it easy to locate Muslim-friendly facilities in Győr.

Visitors will find a variety of architectural and cultural attractions to explore. A great way to get to know more about the city is to roam its streets. The Baroque centre of the town is a must-visit, along with its museums and palaces. One of Győr’s most recognizable attractions is the City Hall. This 16th century attraction is known for its stone columns, detailed stonework and arched windows, and is popular for looking a lot like a palace. The City Hall also houses the city’s clock tower.

When in Győr, a visit to Bécsi kapu tér is a must. The Vienna Gate that once stood in Bécsi kapu tér, which is one of the city’s oldest squares, was demolished in the 19th century, but the square’s name still remains the same. This beautiful Baroque square also houses a Baroque-style church and historic houses, which are great examples of the city’s past.

There are also numerous art museums and permanent exhibitions in the town centre. Győr hosts numerous festivals and events that draw in visitors from all over the world.

Numerous attractions and landmarks can also be found on the banks of Győr’s Rába River. Tourists will be able to find thermal baths and wellness centre’s here, along with a renovated swimming pool complex.

Visitors must pay a visit to the Rába-Quelle Spa, Thermal- & Adventure Bath, which is a facility that opened in 2003. All the services offered here are relaxing and are much needed after spending an entire day walking. There are saunas, medicinal pools, water pools and waterfalls, a kid’s splash pool, and visitors can also get a variety of treatments and massages.

There are also plenty of outdoor areas for nature lovers, like the well-known Fertő-Hanság National Park. Thus, Győr is ideal for those looking to relax and for those looking for some outdoor recreation too.

The closest airport to Győr is Győr-Pér International Airport, which is an international regional airport located approximately 15 kilometres from Györ’s city centre. The major airport located nearest, is however, Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport; which is about 124 kilometres from the center of Győr. Both, Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport and Vienna International Airport; which is located approximately 117 kilometres away, can be reached within two hours.

Halal Restaurants

There are no known Halal restaurants in Győr. Muslim visitors will have to dine at local seafood or vegetarian restaurants after making sure the dishes served do not consist of any non-Halal item.
