Imerovigli is often called as an augmentation of Fira. Just in front of the village lies a huge rock known as the ‘Skaros’. Till the beginning of the 19th century, Skaros was a part of the land and also had a castle. Today visitors can see the remains of this castle. In the past Imerovigli was the place where most of the administrative offices of Santorini were located. The area was largely destroyed during the 1956 earthquake but today is a popular destination among travellers to Santorini.
There are several taverns and cafes from where visitors can enjoy gorgeous views of the Caldera. There are several churches around Imerovigli that are built in traditional Cycladic style. Walking around Imerovigli is the best way visitors can see the area. The streets of Imerovigli are lined with numerous houses and cafes. The village is doused in white and is clearly visible from Fira. The village is the perfect destination for couples to enjoy a memorable time together.
