Located in the central part of Hungary, half way between Budapest and Szeged, in the heart of the Southern Plain is the 8th largest city in the country, and the capital of the Bács-Kiskun region - the town of Kecskemét. Kecskemét lies halfway between the Danube and the Tisza Rivers and is surrounded by picturesque vineyards and orchards. The town is home to numerous churches and museums, green areas, historical buildings, attractions for children and adults, and so much more.  Kecskemét is definitely a must-visit when in Hungary. However, for Muslim visitors, finding Halal-friendly facilities such as prayer areas and Halal food in Kecskemét will prove to be quite difficult.

Kecskemét is a treasure trove waiting to be explored. Its Town Hall building is a monument in itself. There are several churches that are also quite popular, namely; The Great Church of Kecskemet, The Calvinist Church and Saint Nicholas Franciscan Church.

Built in the 19th century, the Town Hall of Kecskemét is an impressive building decorated with Hungarian and Turkish folklore elements. It is a great example of the Hungarian art nouveau style, and its varying architectural styles form a unique and unconventional building. Located in front of the Town Hall is the memorial of the dramatist József Katona.

The entire area is accessible on foot, and this would be a great way to see the town and to get to know it better.

The town of Kecskemét is situated in the center of Kiskunság, which is one of Hungary's famous regions. One of the most characteristic geographical regions in the country is located between the Danube and Tisza rivers, and this is where the Kiskunság National Park is located. The area is home to unique varieties of flora and fauna, lakes and sand dunes, areas for bathing and camping, walking paths and tourist trails and so much more. The park will prove to be the ideal place to spend an entire day out with the family.

The Spa and Aquapark of Kecskemét is another great place for the entire family and is one of the town’s main summer attractions. There are numerous pools for kids and adults; an adventure pool, thermal pools, and a sports pool. Some of the pools have slides meant just for children. There is also a playground with a jungle gym, slides, a sandpit and much more. Other pools have regulated temperatures, waterfalls, jacuzzi’s, and geysers. The thermal pools found here are of different temperatures and the thermal baths are great for those suffering from muscle pains, gynaecologigal diseases, arthritis, as well as other injuries and illnesses.

Other places worthy of a visit include; the Toy Museum and Workshops, Szabadság tér, the Museum of Hungarian Folk Art, the Ornamental Palace and the Kecskemét Baths.

The nearest international airport to Kecskemét is Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, located in Budapest, approximately 98 kilometres from the center of Kecskemét. From Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, tourists can reach Kecskemét by train from the train station near Terminal 1. Visitors can also take a bus from Budapest's Népliget bus station. There is also another airport located in Debrecen. The Debrecen International Airport is located about 183 kilometres away from Kecskemét.

There are no known Halal restaurants in Kecskemét. Muslim visitors, who have the facilities to prepare their own meals, can ask the locals for information on shops in the area that sell Halal items. They can also dine at local seafood or vegetarian restaurants after making sure the dishes served do not consist of any non-Halal items.
