Kiwengwa is a delightful little village hidden along Zanzibar Isand's north-western coast. It is a fairly popular beach destination, with travellers visiting the village to feel and experience the unique atmosphere of the Kiwengwa beaches. Travellers will be able to find several accommodation options as well as a few spots to purchase souvenirs when travelling in the city. Muslim travellers may find it difficult to find access facilities such as Halal food and mosques in comparison to some of the larger cities in the country, but due to the fairly large Muslim community living on the island, facilities will never be too far away.

The village of Kiwengwa is located on the northwestern coast of Zanzibar Island, between the Pongwe village and the Pwani Mchangani village. It is also located in close proximity to several other villages including the Kinyasini village - a coastal Tanzanian village - which is about eight kilometres towards the west.

Kiwengwa is known for being a beach destination and its beaches are its main attraction. Like the other beaches of Zanzibar Island, the beaches of Kiwengwa offer beautiful pristine sandy beaches for travellers, coupled with a relaxing atmosphere to ensure an experience of sublime peace.

The tropical climate of the village is much-loved by travellers and tourists, and plenty of sunshine is offered throughout the year. Beach lovers will discover the beaches in Kiwengwa to be the ideal getaway to relax and unwind under the sun.

Nearby Airports

The closest airport to Kiwengwa is the Zanzibar International Airport which is located about 30 kilometres away from the village. The airport is also known as Abeid Amani Karume International Airport and is one of the busiest and most prominent airports in the country, serving numerous airlines and passengers throughout the year. It features two terminals and offers passengers a wide range of facilities and services to ensure a comfortable flight.

Halal Restaurants

Though there aren’t any known prominent Halal restaurants in Kiwengwa, access to Halal food should not be too far away due to the fairly large Muslim population in the area. The locals may be able to direct Muslim travellers to a few of the popular Halal food spots in the area or travellers could also opt for seafood, which will be available in abundance at most of the local restaurants. Vegetarian cuisine will also be available but it is recommended that you enquire about how food is prepared prior to dining.

There are no known major mosques in Kiwengwa but the locals will be able to offer more information about the nearest prayer facility in the village to visit during prayer tines.
