Azadi Masjid in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan The Azadi masjid or also called as Ertugrul Gazi Masjid in Ashgabat is one of the largest masaajid in the city. The masjid resembles the Blue Masjid of Istanbul and is built in the honor Ertugrul, the father of Osman I, who founded the Ottoman Empire. The masjid is a conspicuous landmark in the city and was inaugurated in 1998.
