Jogja or Yogyakarta is a city that is full of attraction, beauty, and heritage. Food? Check. Attractions? Check. Money? Safe. So what are you waiting for? Here are the reasons why you should visit Jogja.

 

1. The history and culture behind it

Jogja is a city with rich history and stories of its people behind it. Once the capital city of Indonesia and a witness to the past events, the city is full of different cultures that you could experience first-hand. Jogja has long been known as the center of Javanese culture even until the present times, this is shown by the presence of the Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat and Sultan Hamengkubuwono in Jogja as it is also the only Kraton with both political and social influence in Indonesia. As the previous hub for kingdoms, there are lots of relics and heritage that are left in the city that you should definitely check out for.

If you’re looking for heritage-esque travel, you can visit beautiful temples such as Prambanan, Sewu, and even Borobudur! Jogja is also a modern city so there’s always a place for everyone. Hey! A trip would not count if you haven’t tried any local culinary. The culinary in Jogja ranges from delicious to simply bizarre and it would not hurt to try. Some of the most popular dishes to try in Jogja which include gudeg, bakpia, jenang, sego kucing, sate klathak, fried grasshoppers, oseng mercon, kopi joss (charcoal coffee), bakmi godhok, and other delicious treats! Also, make sure to treat yourself to some gelatos to defeat the scorching heat of Jogja and share these delicious foods with your family back home by bringing some bakpia or bakpia kukus.

Batik is one of the most hunted items in Jogja and you’ll definitely find the one that suits you there. Ranging from food to woodwork, there’s everything for everyone. Try visiting Malioboro to shop and experience the real Jogja shopping experience.

Not only food but there are also a lot of local hotels that are much cheaper and carry out the Jogja theme and still carry out the same quality as international hotels.
