اللَّهُمَّ حَوْلَنَا وَلَا عَلَيْنَا ، اللَّهُمَّ عَلَى الآ كَامِ وَالظِّرَابِ ، وَبُطُونِ الأَوْدِيَةِ ، وَمَنَابِتِ الشَّجَرِ
Allaahumma hawlanaa wa laa ‛alaynaa, allaahumma ‛alal-aakaami waz-ziraabi, wa butoonil-awdiyati, wa manaabitish-shajar
O Allah, let the rain fall around us and not upon us, O Allah, (let it fall) on the pastures, hills, valleys, and the roots of trees.
Rain is a blessing and a form of mercy that Allah has prepared and sent to us on earth.
As we are entering the rainy season, the number of rains that falls upon the earth is increasing and we should always be thankful for His blessings. As much as Allah loves to give us His blessings, we as humans might’ve done something wrong in managing and receiving His grace. Hence causing the intensity of the rain to overwhelm us and the surrounding environment. While some might be yearning for more rain, some might want less.
Sometimes in places with excessive rain intensity, disasters such as thunderstorms, floods, and even hurricanes are something that we can’t avoid and prevent with our own effort at that point in time. In this kind of emergency, it would be the right time to seek Allah’s mercy by stopping it, while still expressing gratitude for the rain.
This dua itself, originated when during one Friday khutbah, Prophet Muhammad SAW asked for the rain to stop since it was killing the livestock and cutting off roads. From that specific event, we should always believe that Allah always listens to His creations and would grant their prayers. This specific dua is perfect to request Allah’s protection from intense rain and thunderstorm would stop. Just recite the dua as much as you can and InshAllah that He would grant our wishes.
As the rain is a part of Allah’s blessings and we do not want to refuse them if Allah does grant our wishes and makes the rain stop, make sure to also be thankful and recite this dua so that the upcoming rains would be beneficial for us in the upcoming future.
اللَّهُمَّ صَيِّبًا نَافِعًا
Allahummaj-'alhu soyyiban naafi’an
O Allah, make it a beneficial rain.
By taking all the precautions and reciting this dua and with complete faith in His blessings, may we always be saved from the rain or other kinds of disasters and turn them into something beneficial. Amin.
