1. Boost Your Immune System

The last thing you need is to get hit with the flu – so make sure you take the necessary flu shots before traveling anywhere. Additionally, some countries might not allow entry unless you have taken required shots and hence, do some research beforehand. If you do get sick, carry some saline nasal spray along, since being on an airplane can dry out your mucous membranes and make you feel uncomfortable. Another great hack is to boost your immune system by carrying some vitamin C supplements with you as well. If you have any medication to take, make a list of the things you need while packing your suitcase.

2. Get Enough Rest

Traveling to different time-zones can mess with your body-clock and with your sleeping pattern. Stress and sleep deprivation are actually two of the main causes that make people more vulnerable to ill-health since these factors weaken the immune system. Spend at least a few hours resting or even have a short nap to refresh yourself if you are pressed for time. This is hard for people with busy schedules, but staying healthy while traveling is necessary - try to get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep when you are feeling sick.

3. Always Stay Hydrated

Drinking lots of water when you are sick is great advice whether you are traveling or not. But when you get on a plane you will feel dehydrated, and sleep deprivation will make you feel weak. Always drink clean bottled water in a new city, since your body might not be used to the tap water in the regions. It’s very important to keep yourself hydrated if you are suffering from something like food poisoning or the flu.

4. Avoid Spreading Or Attracting More Germs

Airports have a high amount of germs since millions of people pass through them every day. Try to use hand sanitizer before you enter the airport and while on the plane, preferably after shaking hands with people too. However, regularly washing your hands with hand wash will be more effective. If you feel ill and uncomfortable, consider wearing a face mask on the plane or even when you reach your travel destination. Wearing a mask is helpful for those who are prone to allergies or traveling to areas with high-pollution.

5. Choose Your Food Carefully

It’s understandable that eating local favourites is the best way to get immersed into a new destination. But what to do if you get sick abroad or feel uneasy already? There is no need to avoid local dishes or street foods completely - make sure to select stalls or restaurants that have high hygiene standards. But if you feel awful, don’t feel bad about ordering healthy soups or familiar foods.
