How Haneda Airport Caters to Muslim Travellers
Haneda Airport or Tokyo International Airport, located just a few kilometres away from the heart of Tokyo, is one of the two international airports serving the Greater Tokyo Area. It is also one of the busiest airports in the world, lets alone Asia, and one of the best. The hub for major airlines like Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Skymark Airlines, Air Do and more, Haneda Airport sees over 60 million passengers on average per year. The airport consists of three terminals, as well as one for VIPs, all of which offer these passengers a variety of facilities and services. For travelers that have some time to spend at the airport, there are a variety of things to do and see. The Market Place in Terminal 2, consisting of stores and boutiques spread across 6 floors, is ideal for those looking to get some last minute shopping done. Clothing items, jewelry, electronics, books, accessories, shoes, toys, food items, and even Anime characters can be purchased at the airport. The other terminals also contain shopping areas sure to cater to the wants and needs of all passengers. Restaurants can also be found in the Market Place. Passengers can dine at well known local restaurants and cafés, as well as internationally renowned dining establishments and fast food restaurants. Travelers will however not be able to find any Halal restaurants at Haneda Airport. They will therefore have to dine on suitable seafood and vegetarian dishes, after ensuring the items ordered do not consist of any non-Halal ingredients. Passengers can also bring along their own snacks and enjoy them in one of the resting areas at the airport. Those just looking to get a drink to sip on will be able to find a selection at one of the Drink Vending Machines located throughout the airport. Haneda Airport does however have prayer facilities for Muslim passengers. Muslims looking for prayer rooms within the Haneda Airport will be able to find one in the international terminal departure area, on the 3rd floor. There is also an area for ablution available for Muslim travelers. Adults and kids alike are sure to enjoy the views form the Observation Deck, at the airport. They will be able to relax and watch planes from all around the world taking off and landing. Another great way to pass time while at the airport is to visit the TIAT Sky Road. This corridor connects TOKYO POP TOWN – home to shops selling characters from Anime, and a Planetarium -, to the Observation Deck and Festival Plaza. Home to a variety of model places, and flight simulators, all travelers, regardless of age will definitely enjoy the TIAT Sky Road. Haneda Airport also offers many more attractions for young and old, and has thus truly become a destination of its own. While the airport does not offer Muslim-friendly facilities such as Halal restaurants, or those serving Halal dishes, passengers from all over the world are sure to feel right at home in the airport!
