Important Do's and Don'ts When Performing Hajj
The Performing of Hajj does not mean rushing through the process. The quality of your prayers is more accountable than the quantity. That's one of the common mistakes people make during Hajj. There are more errors people make consciously or unconsciously. We should avoid what's forbidden and always do things that are pleasing in the eyes of Allah (SWT). If you follow the few points of the do's and don'ts of Hajj, it can make your journey acceptable, easy, and comfortable.

1. One of the most common mistakes women make is rushing through Hajj. Remember that Allah will look at the quality of your worship, NOT your quantity. And that’s why our deeds will be weighed on the Day of Judgment and not counted. Isn't it better to have beautifully performed Prayers and Duas rather than having it botched in a greater quantity? Pray with all of your heart and soul and please Allah (SWAT).

2. Hajj should be performed for Allah (SWAT) and to please him. It should not be for showing off or for a reputation. Many people make this mistake but what they don't realize is, if their intentions of praying are not towards pleasing Allah (SWAT), their prayers will not be accepted. Allah (SWAT) said in Hadith Qudsi "I am the most self-sufficient of partners needing no partnership. If one does a deed for me and another simultaneously, I abandon him and his partnership."

3. Hajj should be performed according to the way taught by Allah (SWAT)'s Messenger (PBUH). Therefore we advise and implore our brothers and sisters who intend to perform Hajj not to travel until they have learned how the Prophet (SAW) (PBUH) did it so that they can comply with the order of Allah (SWAT).

4. Learn what is forbidden while in Ihram. Understand the difference between completely forbidden and Makrooh. Differentiate between facts and myths. If Allah (SWAT) has made an exception, make use of it. Don't make anything harder than necessary. This was the way of Prophet (SAW) (PBUH).

5. Be very patient, you will be tested to your limits. Don't lose your temper by getting impatient and angry about the little things. Allah (SWAT) is watching you every day and He will see how you handle yourself in every situation. Your wait is part of the journey and your patience will be rewarded in the end.

6. A dry cough and bad throat are common during Hajj. Your fingers tend to carry germs into your body. To minimize this risk, avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth, and face in general when you leave. While doing Sajdah, make sure to put a small piece of cloth on the floor to put your face on it.

7. Women think the only people who can cut their hair after completing their rituals is someone who has exited Ihram. And they refuse to cut their own hair or let another sister who has not yet exited Ihram to cut their hair, thinking that it's not allowed. But actually, you are supposed to cut your own hair when you finish with all the rituals. The Prophet (SAW) (PBUH) said: "Let him cut his (meaning, his own) hair then exit Ihram" (Al-Bukhari, Muslim).

When you think about it, there are many little things that people make mistakes - whether consciously or not. We should do our best to avoid these simple mistakes. If you don't know something, ask someone who does. People would not hesitate to help you out. You should always take every piece of advice into account. If you are still unsure and hesitant, seek help from the Moulawi in charge of your group. There is no shortage of people to help, you only need to ask. Make your trip more productive than the last or if it's your first trip, make use of the tips given above.
