Thank You For Your Support in Ramadan 2020!

Ramadan is the month of giving and during this Holy month, we will be launching our #PledgeYourLunch campaign. This will be our third year running the campaign and we hope that more communities would be able to benefit during this Blessed month.

This year, we are reaching out to our migrant workers in Singapore, who have been part of the largest clusters affected by Covid-19. At the same time, we will be supporting the SGUnited Buka Puasa Initiative where meals will be provided for Muis’ zakat beneficiaries and other families who require them during this tough period.

What is the #PledgeYourLunch campaign all about?

During this Holy month of Ramadan, Muslims all over the world are obligated to fast every day from dawn to sunset. It is also during this fasting month that Muslims are encouraged to practice good behavior by doing more good deeds and helping the less fortunate. The #PledgeYourLunch campaign is thus a fundraising project which is a good platform to channel people’s lunch money to the less fortunate.

The #PledgeYourLunch campaign is also a good avenue for you to give sedekah (alms) to the less fortunate, so why not embody this spirit of giving by channeling your lunch money to those who need them more?

Setting aside your lunch money during this whole month of Ramadan can go a long way in helping the less fortunate. You’ll be surprised at how much this can make a difference in the lives of others.

Regardless of race or religion, all are welcomed to do their part in donating to this cause by supporting the #PledgeYourLunch campaign. Let’s do our part to support our migrant workers and the underprivileged in our community.

This Ramadan, we are proceeding our funds to the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC) in Singapore. The Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC) champions fair employment practices and the welfare of migrant workers in Singapore. Migrant workers are a part of Singapore society. Their contribution to Singapore’s economy and well-being has been enormous; from building our homes to schools to our workplaces - they have been there for us. Right now, migrant workers in Singapore have been the largest cluster affected by the virus and they require our help to fight Covid-19.

This year, we will also be working with Muis to contribute to the SGUnited Buka Puasa initiative. The SGUnited Buka Puasa is an initiative where meals are provided for iftar during the month of Ramadan to communities greatly affected by the outbreak. One of the recipients for these meals includes the Muis’ zakat beneficiaries. By setting aside your lunch money during the month of Ramadan in our Pledge Your Lunch campaign, this will be translated into daily meals provided for the Muis’ zakat beneficiaries to break fast.

What are the different ways to contribute to this cause?

There are many different ways that you can join the #PledgeYourLunch movement:

  • You may contribute to HalalTrip’s official #PledgeYourLunch campaign on Launchgood for our migrant workers and the SGUnited Buka Puasa Initiative for affected communities.
  • You could also donate to the local mosques online to provide meals for the less fortunate.
  • You may also contribute to local charity drives that are currently raising funds to help the less fortunate, particularly those affected by the global pandemic.
  • Also, if you are ordering food online, why not order some food for the delivery drivers?
  • Also, you may share the #PledgeYourLunch campaign with your family and friends by letting them know more about this initiative.
  • You may also share the #PledgeYourLunch campaign online to raise awareness of this movement and encourage others to take part in this.

You can do your part to help migrant workers as well as contribute to the SGUnited Buka Puasa initiative meant to help communities affected by the outbreak by supporting our #PledgeYourLunch campaign. Every donation counts and can go a long way in helping these communities overcome the situation.

I love to travel and learn about new cultures and traditions. I hope to travel to all the different parts of Southeast Asia and document my experiences one day.
