اَللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّيْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِيْ وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ. أَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ. أَبُوْءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ. وَأَبُوْءُ بِذَنْبِيْ. فَاغْفِرْ لِيْ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوْبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
Allahumma anta rabbi la ilaha illa anta khalaqtani wa 'ana ‘abduka, wa ana ‘ala ‘ahdika wawa‘dika mas-tata‘tu. A‘udzu bika min sharri ma sana‘tu. Abu'u laka bini‘matika ‘alayya. Wa-abu'u bidzanbi. Faghfirli. Fa-innahu la yaghfiru-thunuba illa anta.
O Allah! You are our Rabb. There is no true God except You. You have created us, and we are Your slaves. And we hold to Your covenant as far as we can. We seek refuge in You from the evil of what we have done. We acknowledge the favors that you have bestowed upon us. Pardon us. For none but You have the power to pardon.
The sayyidul istighfar is one of the strongest and most important forms of istighfar as it contains an acknowledgment of favors and sins. It is also the best as it also includes the acknowledgment regarding the status of creation and makes it more important than other forms of istighfar. Due to its importance and the beauty of the istighfar, people who recite them would later be granted a special position alongside Allah. Quoted from the Prophet SAW, this special treatment is given to those who recite the sayyidul istighfar every morning and evening.
Imam Al-Bukhari narrated a hadith from Shaddad bin Aus that the Prophet SAW said that whoever recited the sayyidul istighfar during the morning and evening of a day, and then died on the same day, then they would be granted a position in the Jannah. Therefore, we as Muslims should try to recite the istighfar and include them in our daily duas as how the Prophet and most of the Imams such as Imam Nawawi recommended doing.
