The Sandwich Factory - A Classic American Diner Experience

1950s Diner Themed Restaurant

The Sandwich Factory is a classic ‘50s style American diner down Palm Grove in Colombo 3. Walking in through those doors is like walking into another world, as every single thing you lay your eyes on is part of the theme. From the black-and-white chequered floor, to the diner-style furniture, from the ancient jukebox to the retro artwork, the attention to detail is amazing. In addition to setting the scene, The Sandwich Factory promises to deliver with its food, in terms of taste and value for money. It may not be the cheapest option, but their portion sizes makes it worth it!

Why a Diner?

Although some assume the ‘50s diner theme is due to an infatuation with Marilyn Monroe, it actually reflects the owner, Cader’s, love for eating in diners during his time in the States. Combining his time in America, his experience in the restaurant industry, and his love for food, all paid off in the form of The Sandwich Factory. Diners offer American comfort food, and that’s what Cader wants to pass on to his customers. The Sandwich Factory chooses to specialise in one area of food, hence its title, and boasts the largest sandwich selection in Sri Lanka, of over 50 kinds of sandwiches.

Family Friendly

It prides itself on catering to every demographic, with a special focus on being family-friendly. They offer an outdoor and indoor play area to children, allowing families to dine together in comfort. The Sandwich Factory is large enough to seat 120 people, and has enough space to let kids run loose. With the background music of ‘50s-’70s classics playing out of the jukebox, the whole environment is clean, relaxed, and comfortable, without the exposure of smoking or alcohol. With all the senses employed, taste is the most important one.

The Food

One probably wonders how many different kinds of sandwiches there are, and how one place could have so many. The answer is that there are plenty, and The Sandwich Factory marries classic American sandwiches with tantalising spices and flavours, and a whole lot of experimenting to create unique dishes. Submarines, wraps, hot dogs, burgers, tacos, quesadillas, and plain old bread are all used to dazzle your taste buds with different meats, sauces, cheese and condiments. The fun part of sandwiches is that you can add or subtract items as per your preference.

Philly Cheese Steak

One of The Sandwich Factory favourites is this American classic with a Sri Lankan twist, of steak, green peppers, mushroom, and cheese. Yum!

Classic Cheeseburger

If you are used to regular old cheeseburgers, your eyes are sure to pop out when you see the size of this! Yes, a simple cheeseburger is enough to fill your tummy with all its delicious cheesy gourmet patty goodness.

New York Style Hot Dog

Have you ever wanted to know what the hot dogs from those street carts on TV shows taste like? Well this is your chance to find out! In addition to a hot dog and mustard, meat sauce and onions that top it vamps up this otherwise simple meal.

Milkshakes

Going with the theme, milkshakes are very popular in diners, and no less in this one. With flavours like Cookie Shake, Roc Shake and Peppermint Shake, this is a fun way for kids – or adults – to complement their meal.

If you are looking for a new, unique, fun dining experience, The Sandwich Factory is the place to try!
