Presently the world's most visited destination, France's charm and enchantment have captured the hearts of travellers for centuries and it is considered to be the dream travel destination of many around the world. In addition to its wealth of attractions, fantastic cuisine and distinct atmosphere, France is host to many festivals and events throughout the year. We have compiled a list of some of France's upcoming events this year that may just get you packing for an exciting European vacation at this amazing travel destination.

Bastille Day – July 14th

Bastille Day is a celebration of the start of the French Revolution n 1789 and is one of France's most vibrant and colourful large-scale festivals. Travellers visiting France during Bastille Day will be able to see the streets lined with military parades, impressive airshows and truly breathtaking displays of fireworks at night. Bastille Day is a French national holiday and is one of the best times to visit France – Paris in particular.  

International Garden Festival - April to early-November

France's International Garden Festival held in the estate of Chaumont-sur-Loire Castle is considered to be one of the world's best garden festivals and is a significant event in the sphere of garden design. The festival features up to 30 themed gardens designed by various landscape architects and designers around the world and will be a treat for anyone with a penchant for gardening.  

Lille Christmas Market - November to December

Christmas markets in France provide excellent shopping opportunities during the Christmas season and exude a cheerful Christmas spirit that lingers in the air throughout the month. Lille's month-long Christmas Market is one of the best spots in France to get Christmas shopping done and features numerous antique shops to high-end fashion brands to the biggest bookstore in Europe – providing a wealth of shopping options for everyone.   Cirque de Demain - 

 Annual Cirque de Demain - End of January

The annual Cirque de Demain is one of the most prominent circuses in France that showcases incredible performances and acts by circus artists from the world's best circus schools. Spectators will be left in awe of the various talents presented by the young acrobats, tight rope walkers, clowns, jugglers and trapeze artists who come together under the biggest circus tent in Europe.  

Nice Carnival– Mid February

One of the largest carnival events in the world, Nice Carnival is celebrated annually in the city of Nice on the French Riviera. The carnival has been running since 1294 and features a special theme each year, with massive colourful parades taking to the streets day and night. The carnival goes on for 15 days and the whole city revels in the carnival's fairy-tale atmosphere for days to come.
