Catania is a beautiful city with impressive architecture and picturesque surroundings. The architecture in the city is mainly baroque. The Piazza del Duomo is the main square in the city, which is the busiest and the most impressive areas in the city. The piazza has the Elephant Fountain, which is one of the main landmarks of the city. The Elephant Fountain also marks the beginning of the Via Etna, which is the main shopping street in the city. Below the Piazza del Duomo are vibrant food markets that make a good visit.
The Piazza Teatro is also a bustling piazza in the city surrounded by several cafes and restaurants. There are also some ruins in the city that are good to visit; these include the Greek/Roman Theatre and Odeon. The Villa is a large park dating from the 19th century. There is a civic museum located in the Castello Ursino, which is a building dating from the medieval period. One of the most exciting things to do in Catania is to try the volcano trek up Mount Etna.
Catania also offers some good shopping opportunities. The Via Etna is the main shopping street in the city. Visitors can buy a range of items and some beautiful souvenirs at the shops around Via Etna.

Catania is served by the Catania-Fontanarossa Airport. The airport serves scheduled and charter flights arriving from all across Italy and Europe. The ride from the airport to the city takes about 20 minutes. Regular buses leave the airport every half an hour for the city bus station.
