Rhodes Town is one of the largest medieval towns in Europe. Located on the Rhodes Island a part of the Dodecanese islands, the city serves as the capital of the Rhodes Island. There are numerous historic sites located around the Rhodes Town. The Old Rhodes Town is especially good to visit. The Old Town is housed inside the medieval walls and features some well-known attractions such as the majestic Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes. The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There are a number of museums around Rhodes that depict the history and the heritage of the area. The Rhodes Archaeological Museum is especially worth visiting. The Museum of Decorative Arts is also good to visit. Rhodes Town has a number of ancient mosques, out of all the Mosque of Suleiman is of particular interest. It was built in the 16th century by the Ottomans and is presently being renovated. There is a Muslim Library located just opposite to the Mosque of Suleiman. Other mosques good to visit in Rhodes Town are Murat Reis Mosque, Mosque of Aga and the Ibrahim Pasha Cami.

Rhodes Town offers visitors with an exclusive shopping experience. Around the harbor area visitors can find several stalls selling colorful sea shells. The Sokratous Street in the Old Town is also lined with several shops selling souvenirs and other items. Jewelry, clothing, handbags and cosmetic are some of the best things to shop in Rhodes Town. There are a number of department stores selling international brands in the city.

Nearby Airports

Rhodes is served by the Rhodes International Airport also known as the Diagoras International Airport. The airport is located about 14km from Rhodes Town and can easily be reached by car, buses or taxis.
