Cape Town, located on the shore of Table Bay is the provincial capital and the primate city of Western Cape and is the second most populous city in South Africa. The city is considered to be a global city and is one of the most popular international tourist destinations not only in South Africa but in Africa as a whole. Known for its breathtaking natural settings in the cape floral kingdom, its iconic landmarks such as the Table Mountain and Cape Point, the city of Cape Town has much to offer its many visitors.  Cape Town is the quintessential melting pot- a city with diverse cultures, tastes, sounds and color. This large and sophisticated city is unparalleled in its natural beauty, with mountains that rise from the ocean, forests as well as its numerous beaches and not to forget its Cape Dutch architecture that matches its grand natural surroundings; the city of Cape Town is definitely a must-visit when in South Africa. Visitors can get to the top of the mountain by either hiking or taking the Table Mountain cableway.

The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, built on top of the docks of the port of Cape Town is one of the most visited tourist attraction and is home to hundreds of shops and the Two Oceans Aquarium. It is the city’s most popular shopping venue and is frequented by locals and tourists alike. Those visiting the waterfront will be met with breathtaking views of some of Cape Town’s major attractions – Table Mountain, the Atlantic Ocean and Table Bay Harbour.

Cape Town International Airport is the primary airport serving the city of Cape Town and is located approximately 20 kilometres from the city center. It is the second busiest airport in South Africa and the third busiest in Africa. The airport houses an international terminal and a domestic terminal, which is linked by a common central terminal. The airport is easily accessible by road and travelers can take the shuttle to the bus station or take a taxi to the city.

Cape Town is home to a sizeable Muslim population and therefore Muslim travelers will be able to find halal restaurants without much difficulty. There are a fair number of halal restaurants catering to its Muslim residents as well as to tourists, and most of them are either halal certified or Muslim owned. Mezbaan, Alhambra Restaurant and Coffee Shop, Atlantic Express Cake and Coffee Train, Bokaap Kombuis, Eastern Food Bazaar, Food Inn India, Kaprinos, The Lounge on Kromboom, Pepperazzi and Zaika are just a few of the many popular halal restaurants in Cape Town which serve a diverse array of cuisines. These restaurants are all halal certified although Muslim travelers might want to confirm its halal status before ordering.  


Muslim travelers will find it easy to locate prayer facilities in Cape Town as the city has several masjids and Islamic centers spread across the city. The Bo- Kaap sector of the city is home to a number of mosques, the largest of which is the Gatesville Mosque. Other mosques in Cape Town that Muslim travelers could use if necessary are; Owal Masjid, Shafie Masjid, Zinatul Islam, Nurul Islam Masjid, Noorul Mogamediyah Masjid, Coowatool Islam Masjid, Palm Tree Mosque, Jameah Masjid and the Jumua  Mosque of Cape Town.
