Like Muscat and Salalah, Sur is another prominent city in Oman and also a popular destination amongst travellers to Oman. It is a well-known city in the past for being a point of great importance for sailors, with the sea still playing a vital part in the lifestyles of the local people. Sur is a prominent city in Oman which is located towards the northeast of the country, on the Gulf of Oman. It is also the capital city of the Ash Sharqiyah Region - the eastern region of the Sultanate of Oman - and is located about 150 kilometres away from Muscat, the capital of the country.

Like most of the other cities in Oman, Sur features a very hot desert climate throughout the year. However, due to its close proximity to the coast, the temperatures at night in Sur are very low. Rainfall is also fairly uncommon and usually takes place during March, which is considered to be the wettest month of the year.
