The Fairway Galle Literary Festival Sri Lanka 2017 is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. The festival is where international and local authors as well as readers come together to take part in discussions or workshops that are part of the event. The Galle Literary Festival Programme

The Galle Literary Festival Programme has much to offer those who visit Galle Literary Festival 2017 where they will get a wonderful experience and get engaged in the cultural and literary atmosphere of the festival. The Galle Literary Festival Programme will feature workshops, panel discussions, debates, poetry reading, art or photographic exhibitions, cookery classes and much more engaging and interesting activities.

Meet the Authors

Readers will also get a chance to interact with the authors who are part of the event and get involved in literary lunches or dinners and private discussions as well. The MAS Galle Children’s Programme is also part of the festival and will be held from 14th to 15th January 2017 with plenty of educational and interesting activities for children.

Several well-known and upcoming authors from Sri Lanka and all over the world will be coming together at the Fairway Galle Literary Festival 2017 – such as Shyam Selvadurai, Phillipa Gregory, Colm Toibin, Nayomi Munaweera to name a few of the many brilliant authors who will be part of the event. Authors will also be recognised and awarded for their efforts to literature. The Fairway National Literary Awards will be awarded to the best English, Sinhalese and Tamil authors who have published novels in Sri Lanka. The Edward Lear Prize for Poetry for the best English poems will be awarded to three finalists.


Revel in the Atmosphere



These events will be held at beautiful historical places in the Dutch Galle Fort and the surrounding areas which will create a wonderful atmosphere. Excursions to historical places such as the Old Fort and architectural excursions with Chana Daswatte in the Galle Fort area is an excellent way to learn about Galle’s history.

Readers and literary enthusiasts should definitely plan a visit to the Galle Literary Festival to really get immersed in the literary culture of Sri Lanka and interact with different authors and other readers too.


Muslim-Friendly Facilities at The Fairway Galle Literary Festival 2017

Finding Halal food at Galle is not hard with a number of Muslim owned eating outlets that can be found. There are also Halal restaurants located in Galle Fort - such as Chambers, The Stairway and The Boutique Café. Muslims in Galle will find a few mosques in Galle even though there are no prayer facilities at Galle literary festival and the closest mosque to the venue is the Fort Meeran Jumma Mosque.
