Description

One of the best places in Lisbon for a fun family day out is Oceanário de Lisboa or the Lisbon Oceanarium. This popular family-friendly attraction also happens to be one of the best aquariums in Europe and one of the largest in the world. The Oceanário encourages learning about the undersea environment through a variety of entertaining exhibits which makes it the ideal place for kids and adults alike. It is divided into different ecosystems; North Atlantic, Antarctic, Temperate Pacific and Tropical Indian, and houses thousands of different aquatic species, including fish and other marine animals and birds. Surrounding the different habitats is a huge central tank; the Global Ocean which represents all of the oceans and features a variety of sea creatures, such as blacknose shark, cownose ray, sunfish and so on. While all of the habitats in the Oceanário are worthy of a visit, the Antarctic habitat houses playful sea otters and penguins, and therefore should not be missed.
