The fifth largest city of Japan and the capital of the Hokkaido Prefecture, Sapporo is a beautiful cosmopolitan destination that attracts a large number of visitors. Sapporo is the main transportation center on the island of Hokkaido and also a great spot for skiing. Within the city there are some wonderful landmarks like the Clock Tower, JR Tower and the Sapporo TV Tower which has an observation deck at a height of 90m. Just outside Sapporo is the Hokkaido Pioneer Village, an open-air museum, which gives an insight into the new-age Japan.

Sapporo is home to several other museums like the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art, Sapporo Art Park, etc. The Ishiya Chocolate Factory is one attraction in the city that attracts people of all age groups. Visitors looking for open green spaces can find a good number of parks in the city. Some of these parks include the Odori Park, the 100th anniversary Memorial Park, the Asahiyama Park, Moerenuma Park and the Hokkaido University Botanic Garden. Visitors planning a trip to the city in early February can be a part of the Snow Festival which is hosted every year.

There are a number of places to shop in Sapporo. There are several stores in the city that sell winter apparels and accessories. The Sapporo Factory is an excellent place where visitors can shop and also have some fun.

Nearby Airports

Sapporo is the main transport hub in Hokkaido. The nearest airport to Sapporo is the New Chitose Airport. The airport is located towards the south eastern part of the city. There are direct bus shuttles available from the airport to the city. There is also the JR Train service that runs from the airport to the Sapporo station every 15 minutes. A one-way ticket in the reserved compartment costs 1340 Yen and in the unreserved compartment costs 1040 Yen.
