Drammen is a well-known city located in the Buskerud County of Norway. Drammen is also the site where the Drammen River flows into the Drammensfjord. Drammen is a quiet and pleasant city and makes a great side-trip destination from Oslo. The city center of Drammen is quite compact and visitors can easily walk around to admire the architecture and local lifestyle. Drammen has often been overlooked by travellers as it is an industrial city; but what most people miss out is that it is worth a stop and quite a pleasant destination. Drammen was the starting point of the Royal Road to Bergen and has always been an important city. Drammen serves as the capital of the Buskerud County and is located in the eastern part of Norway. The Drammen River flows through the city and meets the Drammensfjord here.There are a few skiing slopes located close to Drammen and travellers can easily access them to enjoy some adventure.

The Drammen Museum of Art and Cultural History is one of the prime attractions of Drammen. It features a vast collection of handicrafts, art and historic artifacts. The BragernesTorg is the main square in the city and has been so since the 19th century. The Spiralen is an interesting attraction; it is a tunnel in the hills that gives people access to the hills surrounding the city. There are a number of bridges in the city that are excellent to visit. The Drammen Bridge, Ypsilon and the Drammen City Bridge are some of the bridges worth seeing.

Drammen also offers visitors with a fantastic shopping scene. The Magasinet Drammen is a huge mall in the city that has over 65 shops. Other good places to shop are the Buskerud and Korkstad Shopping Centre and the Liertoppen Shopping Centre. There are several glasswork factories in Drammen that craft artistic designs from glass. Travellers can visit these factories and also buy glass items there.

Nearby Airports

Drammen is equally close to the Oslo Airport Gardemoen and the Sandefjord Airport Torp. Both the airports are about one and a half hour drive away from Drammen. From the Oslo Airport Gardemoen there are three airport express trains every hour. A one-way ticket costs about 205 NOK and the journey takes exactly an hour. There is also an intercity train and a regional train that take one hour 15 minutes and a one-way ticket costs about 182 NOK. Alternatively visitors can also hire taxis or car rentals at the airport.
