Description

Melaka is a stunning destination for a vacation that boasts of lot of good food, apart from its cultural attractions and its importance for medical tourism which has only grown in recent years. But it's not just the medical facilities that draw visitors; the area's stunning historic sites and architecture are a major draw for tourists.

Melaka was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, and it is a city brimming with culture and history. A tranquil river meanders through the city, creating a serene atmosphere. Visitors can explore the many historical sites and experience the unique culture of this vibrant city.

The city is divided into two areas by the Melaka River. The eastern section is the St. Paul’s Hill Civic Zone and the western section is a labyrinth of ancient streets. A walk down the area is highly recommended.

The A' Famosa Fortress is an important reminder of the city’s past. The history of Melaka can be visited at the Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum, Chitty Village and at the Portuguese Settlement.

The mosques in and around Melaka are beautiful and many of them are ancient.

The Malay and Islamic World Museum on Jalan Kota are especially worth visiting. There are several other museums that are good to visit like the UMNO Museum and the Melaka Art Gallery.

Melaka offers an excellent shopping experience. The city is especially known for antiques. There are various markets and shopping malls where visitors can enjoy shopping. Some of the best places to shop include Dataran Pahlawan Mega Mall, Jonker Walk Night Market, Mahkota Parade Shopping Centre and the Night Market. From clothing to electronics, visitors can find a number of items available in these markets and malls.

Nearby Airports

The Malacca International Airport is the main airport serving the city.

The airport is located about 10 Km from the city center. There is regular bus service from the main road of the airport to different parts of the city.

The nearest major airport to Melaka is the Kuala Lumpur International Airport which is about 2 hours away from the city.

From the Kuala Lumpur International Airport visitors can take direct buses that run regularly. These buses cost around RM 25-35.

Taxis are also available from the airport to Melaka and ideally cost around RM 150-200 for a one-way trip.

Halal Restaurants

There are several halal restaurants in Melaka where visitors can relish different types of cuisines.

Some of the best halal restaurants to dine in the city include Restoran Taj, McDonald's, Pak Halim Corner, etc.

These restaurants serve delicious local as well as international cuisines for halal food seekers.

Mosques

Finding a mosque in Melaka is not difficult. There are several mosques around the city and people can easily locate one.

Some of the most prominent mosques in Melaka include Al-Azim Mosque, Kampung Hulu Mosque, Tranquerah Mosque, Malacca Straits Mosque, etc.
