Located in the heart of Kuwait City, opposite the Seif Palace is the Grand Mosque - the official mosque of the country of Kuwait as well as the largest. Also known as Al-Masjid Al-Kabir, this mosque spans 45, 000 square metres and has a blend of traditional Islamic design and Kuwaiti characteristics. This stunning mosque also has a large library that is home to hundreds of Islamic documents and books and a 5-lever car park. The Grand Mosque also consists of a dome that is 26 metres in diameter and 43 metres in height that is decorated with the 99 names of Allah. The magnificent Grand Mosque of Kuwait is a wonderful place to pray, and is definitely worthy of a visit.  For those interested in learning more about it, there are tours available, but these need to be booked in advance.

Prayer Facilities

This mosque, being the largest in Kuwait and the 7th largest in the world, can accommodate around 10,000 men in its main prayer hall. Muslim women visiting the mosque for prayers will find available all the facilities necessary. The women’s prayer hall has the capacity to accommodate about 950 women.

Halal Food

Although visitors will not be able to locate Halal food at the mosque, the city of Kuwait is home to a plethora of Halal restaurants that are known to serve a variety of cuisines. Tourists will be able to locate numerous restaurants serving local dishes, as well as ones that serve Indian, Pakistani, Middle Eastern and western food.
