Kobe was established as a port in 1868 as a privilege to the ships from the western countries. Today Kobe has developed into a cosmopolitan city with a wide range of attractions and lots of fun things to see and do. The city is visited by thousands of visitors every year. The central district of Kobe is located around Sannomiya. Kobe is known for its western-style houses many of them dating to 1868 when the area was established.

Kobe has some beautiful attractions; the area of Ijinkan has several western-style houses dating to the 19th century. The City Hall Observation Deck and the Kobe Tower offer some wonderful views of the city. The city has several museums depicting the history, heritage and culture of the area; the best museums to visit in Kobe are the Sawa-no-Tsuru Museum, Kobe City Museum, etc. Visitors looking forward to visit green spaces in Kobe will find the Nunobiki Herb Park and the Meriken Park as excellent places to visit.

Shopping in Kobe is concentrated around the Sannomiya station. The Center-Gai shopping arcade is also a major destination for shopping. The Piazza Kobe and Motoko Town offer a great shopping experience. Other good places where visitors can have fun and also shop are Harbor Land, Mosaic, etc.

Nearby Airports

Kobe is served by the Kobe Airport. The airport is located right in front of the harbor and is dedicated to only serving domestic air traffic. From the airport visitors can take airport buses, shuttles, taxis or hotel transfers to reach their destination in the city. There is a port liner that leaves the airport every 10 minutes to Sannomiya and costs around 320 yen per ticket for a one-way ride.

The nearest international airport to Kobe is the Kansai International Airport. From the Kansai International Airport visitors can take the Airport Limousine bus or the express bus. There is also a high-speed ferry the Kaijo Express that runs between the Kobe and Kansai airports.
