Edmonton is often termed as the ‘Festival City’ of Canada, as the city hosts a large number of events, festivals and concerts throughout the year. The city started as a trading post for the Hudson Bay and today is a major center for biotech, mining and energy industries. The city is sectioned by the valleys of the North Saskatchewan giving rise to beautiful green pockets and parks which are the main draw for the visitors. There are over 150km of hiking trails throughout the city that visitors can tread on.

The city also has some beautiful buildings like the Alberta Legislature, which is a colonial-style building dating to 1911. The Art Gallery of Alberta features some excellent art exhibits from local as well as international artists. The Muttart Conservatory and the TELUS World of Science are also interesting places to visit. The Royal Alberta Museum features a great collectionof historic statues and paintings. TheFort Edmonton Park is a live history museum.

Edmonton also offers an excellent shopping experience. There are numerous malls and shopping streets across Edmonton where visitors can find a variety of items. The West Edmonton Mall is among the largest shopping malls in North America. Other good places to shop in Edmonton are Whyte Avenue, Kingsway (Garden) Mall, 124th Street and Downtown.

Nearby Airports

Edmonton is served by the Edmonton International Airport. The airport is located about 10km south of the city center. Buses are available from the airport to the city and ideally cost $5 for a one-way ticket. There is also an airport shuttle available from the airport and costs $15 for a one-way ticket. Taxis and car rentals can easily be hired from the airport.
