Located in India, in the western state of Gujarat, on the banks of the River Sabarmati is the fascinating city of Ahmedabad. Founded in 1411 by Sultan Ahmed Shah, Ahmedabad is the largest city and former capital of Gujarat. The city is not extremely popular among tourists, but it is definitely a must-visit when in India. Ahmedabad is home to numerous tourists attractions, most of which are extremely family-friendly. It houses beautiful lakes, wonderful museums and monuments, archaeological sites and great family-friendly retreats. Muslim visitors must be aware that finding Muslim-friendly facilities in Ahmedabad will be quite easy. There are numerous Halal restaurants in Ahmedabad which serve a variety of cuisines, as well as a number of food carts. Muslim tourists will also be able to locate mosques in Ahmedabad. Most of these mosques have been around for an incredibly long time and have a fascinating story to tell.

Muslim tourists will definitely appreciate a visit to the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque. Said to be one of the most prominent mosques in Ahmedabad, the Sidi Sayed Mosque; which was built in 1573 is also one of the oldest mosques in India. The mosque is famous for its architecture and draws in tourists from all around the world. Other mosques that are also worth a visit include the Jama Masjid and the Sidi Bashir Mosque.

When in Ahmedabad, it is hard to miss the Kankaria Lake. Built up by Sultan Kutubuddin in the 15th century, this lake is the biggest in Ahmedabad. It is home to numerous family-friendly attractions, including a kids play area, water rides, a theme park, food stalls and so much more; making it an ideal spot for picnics. There is also a stunning garden located in the center of the lake; known as Nagina Wadi.

A visit to the famous local market of Lal Darwaja is also a must. The area is extremely crowded but is great for tourists looking for bargains. It is one of the most popular shopping areas in Ahmedabad, and should therefore be on every visitor’s itinerary.

Those visiting Ahmedabad cannot leave the city without a visit to the Law Garden Night Market. This popular evening market is packed to the brim with fascination stalls selling a variety of items ranging from traditional Indian clothes and jewelry to souvenirs and other unique items. This market comes alive at night, and is the ideal place to find delicious street food.

Other must-visit attractions in Ahmedabad include the Bhadra Fort, Vastrapur Lake, the Calico Museum of Textiles and the Ahmed Shah Mosque.

Nearby Airports

The nearest airport to Ahmedabad is Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. This airport has domestic and international flights and is situated about 14 kilometres from the center of Ahmedabad. Tourists can get from the airport to their destination via taxi, car or bus.

Halal Restaurants

Muslim visitors will be able to find numerous Halal restaurants in Ahmedabad. Pleasure Trove, I Love Biryani, Food Inn, Tandoor20 Fast Food & Restaurant and WoW Mughlai Handi & BBQ Grill are just some of the many restaurants that serve Halal food in Ahmedabad. Muslim tourists must also visit some of the several food carts and food streets, like Manek Chowk, in the city for unique and flavorful dishes.

There are quite a number of mosques in Ahmedabad. Some of these mosques are extremely old and are popular tourist attractions. Jama Masjid, Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, Sidi Bashir Mosque, Peer Shah Hammad Masjid and Pir Ibrahim Masjid are just a few masjids in Ahmedabad.
