  • Pledge Your Lunch Today | Give Back This Ramadan

“The best among you are those who bring greatest benefits to many others” – Hadith Related By Imam Al Tabarani Alhamdulillah, Ramadan 2019 is our second year running the #PledgeYourLunch campaign. Last year, our campaign raised $6,215 in total for our beneficiaries – Cahaya Surya Bakti in Johor Bahru, Malaysia and Free Food For All (FFFA) in Singapore. We hope that this year will be an even better year for #PledgeYourLunch as donors from all over the world contribute to this campaign. This year, we are reaching out to a society that focuses on empowering individuals with mental health issues. At the same time, we are still showing our support to the Rohingya children seeking refuge in Malaysia.   What is #PledgeYourLunch? During the month of Ramadan, Muslims all over the world fast from dawn to dusk and skip their usual lunch routine. Thus, the #PledgeYourLunch campaign serves as a fundraising project which focuses on channeling people’s lunch money to those who need it more. So why not channel our lunch money for a better cause? It is during this fasting month that Muslims try their best to be a better version of themselves by committing good deeds, be it through charity, ibadah (act of worship) or acts of sunnah (following the acts of Prophet Muhammad). So with millions of Muslims fasting around the world, we can only imagine the impact of charity on those who are less fortunate.Putting aside your lunch money for one day for charity might not seem like anything significant but what if we put aside our lunch money for a whole month and channel it to things that actually matter? Like providing education for Rohingya children refugees and supporting those with the desire to be confident in today’s society.A normal lunch meal in a Singapore hawker centre would cost nowhere above $10. By the end of Ramadan, one individual could save up to a whopping $300! So you see, your $10 today could go to a student’s school fees for a month and your $15 tomorrow could go to ensuring that a student is equipped with school supplies for an entire year.As we all try to improve ourselves this Ramadan, let’s put our focus on others as well. Let's do our part by helping the Rohingya children get the education they deserve and making sure that individuals with mental health issues receive unconditional love from society.   Cahaya Surya Bakti Cahaya Surya Bakti (CSB) is an NGO based in Malaysia that strives to meet the needs of the growing Rohingya population in the state of Johor Bahru (JB). CSB runs 3 schools for Rohingya refugee children and teenagers in Johor Bahru, Kluang and Pekan Nanas. The JB centre is the first of its kind to be offering access to secondary education as well as vocational training to Rohingya refugees in the state. Their aim is to increase access to education and help pave the way towards a self-sufficient refugee community in Johor.   Club HEAL Club HEAL (Hope, Empowerment, Acceptance & Love) is a mental health charity that provides counselling and rehabilitation services to anyone experiencing mental health problems. The organisation offers caregiver support groups and corporate training that purpose in empowering individuals and organisations by understanding mental health and wellbeing. Club HEAL aims to assist and empower persons with mental health issues to regain confidence in themselves and others in their journey towards community reintegration. At HalalTrip, we try our best to highlight on social activism especially during Ramadan. It is through #PledgeYourLunch that we are able to lend a helping hand to these organisations. We hope that this campaign will also be a way for you to reach out to the people who need our support. Let’s make a change this Ramadan. And let’s start today. Click here to #PledgeYourLunch now!    ...

  • Rawa Island, Johor: 7 Reasons Why You Need To See This Island

What’s the best destination for a beach holiday? If you prefer an uncommon spot, Rawa Island might just be the ideal destination for you. Framed by the China Sea with unspoiled beaches of powdery white sand, Rawa Island is a hidden gem off the coast of Malaysia that is part of the Johor Sultanate.  Often known as the “Maldives of Malaysia” due to its pristine beaches, Rawa Island has become one of the wonderful destinations for family-friendly travel with enough to keep younger family members occupied while the adults kick back and relax. You can reach this tropical paradise within a 20-minute boat ride from the coastal town of Mersing, and this is the only way to get to the island as there is no airport. We have listed out some great reasons to take that Halal-friendly family beach holiday at Rawa Island Beach so that you won’t miss out on all the fun. 1. Dive in or go snorkeling Rawa Island is part of the Sultan Iskandar Marine Park and boasts of some of the best diving and snorkeling sites in Malaysia, where you will get to explore intriguing underwater diving spots. You will find marine life such as turtles and stingrays along with shoals of fish. The corals are bright and healthy at Rawa Island compared to other diving sites since this is a protected area. Do head down to Orca Scuba Rawa which offers diving courses with PADI certifications, and diving excursions as well. The Rawa Island Resort also provides diving and snorkeling excursions as well - so don’t miss out on this fun activity if you are staying at the resort. 2. Go kayaking What could be a better way to enjoy the ocean than kayaking around Rawa Island? This is a great way to explore the island’s surrounding and spend some quality time with your travel buddies or family.  Kayaking is the perfect activity for those who enjoy water sports or something more engaging than lying on the beach. 3. The Water Slides Credit: Rawa Island Resort Why run into in the waves when you can enjoy a thrilling slide straight into the ocean? There are two huge water slides on Rawa Island which are the perfect addition for a day out at the beach. The water slides are some of the highlights of the island, which are ideal for children and adults alike. 4. Play beach volleyball If lazing around the beach with a mocktail in hand is not your thing, a game of volleyball with the family or your big group of friends might be the best thing to do. Plus, it’s always great to get some exercise even if you are on holiday. Beach volleyball is a great excuse to take a break from technology and make the most of Rawa Island. 5. Get on a hiking trail One of the best ways to enjoy the rustic charm of Rawa Island is to get on the hiking trail. This is undoubtedly the best spot to get a fantastic view of the island and its surroundings while taking some photos of the gorgeous sunset. It can't get any better than that! For something less strenuous, just go on the Island Walk Trail to explore the rest of the island which is quite relaxing. 6. Enjoy fun activities and just relax Orca Scuba Rawa and the Rawa Island Resort both offer activities such as trampolining, pool, volleyball and more, so there is something for everyone here. If you are not into diving and snorkeling, playing a few games and enjoying other water sports such as stand-up paddling might be better options. Alternatively, you can enjoy your freedom from technology and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Rawa Island by just soaking up some sun. 7. Unwind with nature Some of the best things about Rawa Island being an unspoiled paradise is that the water is so clear that you can see marine life swimming along the corals even without diving. Don’t forget to look out for the peacocks either! There are several sightings of the gorgeous birds roaming free around the area, so do keep an eye out. Where should you stay? Rawa Island Resort There are just two accommodation options on the island - Rawa Island Resort and Alang’s Rawa since Rawa Island is far from the sprawling cities and the daily bustle. When considering family-friendly travel, Rawa Island Resort is the family-friendly option with fun activities, spa treatments, and simple yet comfortable accommodation options. Alang's Rawa Credit: Alang's Rawa on Facebook Alang’s Rawa is the budget option and ideal for that beach vibe accommodation, however, children below 16 are allowed only during weekdays. Where can you find Halal food? You can choose to stay at Rawa Island Resort where buffets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner are available daily and are part of the package. There are no pork products included in the food preparation at the Rawa Island Resort, and all food is Halal even though they serve alcohol. Guests are not allowed to bring food from outside on to Rawa Island since cooking facilities are not available....

  • Calling Out All Vegetarians! Here's Where You Can Get Your Samurai Ramen In JB!

"Throughout ramen, we aim to cross the boundary of taste and spread the unique authentic taste of Japanese ramen." - Samurai Ramen The yearnings of all ramen-loving Malaysians have been satisfied! Prayers have been answered! Callings have been heard! Originally starting off in Japan, Samurai Ramen finally made its debut in Johor Bahru bringing down their much-loved authentic Japanese ramen! via GIPHY If you grew up watching Japanese anime like me, that showcased a lot of characters enjoying ramen you would know that this specific kind of Samurai Ramen is cooked with the amalgamation of premium top quality soup, prepared to perfection with precisely chopped vegetables and a whole load of spices that blend impeccably together with the remaining components along with the highlight of the dish that stands out the most – the noodles. Picture Credit: Samurai Ramen Umami Facebook If you're a die-hard vegan devotee, amongst the other Halal food restaurants in Johor Bahru, the new Samurai Ramen Umami restaurant would be your idyllic spot to get your Ramen cravings fulfilled. Not only do they have their own outlet in Johor Bahru but you are also presented with the opportunity of purchasing it online. Difference What distinguishes Samurai Ramen from the other various sorts of Ramen?  Picture Credit: Samurai Ramen Umami Facebook For starters, it is 100% vegetarian which does not encompass any animal, alcohol, addictive, MSG, chemicals or any added preservatives, placing you on the better path of healthier living as it is gentle to the body with a low-calorie count. Even though the Samurai Ramen is not part of the 'Halal food JB' clique with an exact halal certification it would be deemed essential to be mindful of the healthy benefits it entails and brings about. The Gold Box Picture Credit: Samurai Ramen Umami Facebook The "gold box" version of the Samurai Ramen Umami which signifies the gold leaf of the golden tea room of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who received the peak as a samurai, has now become a souvenir purchased by foreign travelers. These gold packages of Ramen are ideal for gifts thanks to the striking outlook of the packaging. What is Included? Picture Credit: Samurai Ramen Umami Facebook One would find bamboo chopsticks, noodles, soup paste and chili powder which comprise the contents of this packet. For newbies who are learning the art of cooking, there is also a direction manual in the box assisting you through every step of the way. As instant as it is you don't have to worry about spending time and sweating it out over the stove mixing pots and pans until your hands go numb because this ramen can be whipped up in just approximately 5 minutes!  You can even customize the topping of your end masterpiece to your heart's desire (and then maybe boast about it on social media along with the 101 pictures that you took of it). However, be wary of the remaining ramen left in the packet. Store it in a location where it is not attracted by direct sunlight and to be on the safe side it would be best if it is stored at normal temperature in an airtight container until it is ready to be cooked again.
