The royal palace of Istana Bukit Serene is the official residence of the Sultan of Johor. Completed in the early 20th century, the palace features tall towers and are enclosed by walls covered with a number of exquisite carvings and art. Though the palace is not fully open to the public, whilst passing by, visitors may catch a glimpse of the beautiful palace garden and grounds where many royal events and celebrations are frequently held. Facing the Straights of Johor, the palace is given a clear view of Singapore, which was once a possession of the Sultanate. The palace is located in the vicinity of a number of stadiums and country clubs which are popular spots amongst locals.
